05.10.2023 - 26.10.2023 ( week 5 - week 08 ) Len Hoi Yee / 0353430 Motion Graphics and Compositing / Bachelor of Design in Creative Media Project 2 Channel Bumper
Research
First, I look for brands that I am interested in and since I have always liked the skin care aesthetic, and i am also a skincare person, So I looked into the local brands that exist in Malaysia. To avoid being too ambitious, I chose to work on local brands instead of luxurious brands. As I browse through, I noticed Lumi. A local brand run by Chryseis Tan, aims to promote the bare beauty of a natural face.
I did research on the brand and sorted out some information, such as the colour palette, taglines, best-selling products, main ingredients, and elements. In the end, I chose to go for the Vitamin C Glowing Serum that has received good reviews.
Try out
After I have done my research, I started my storyboard which then became a disaster, as I have confused Channel Bumper with Channel Ident, The idea I came up with is better to save and use in Channel Ident.
Week 9 Feedback: What you have done is actually used in Channel Ident. In Channel Bumper, You only have to show the brand for 10s, that short. Just a simple animation about the brand. All these ideas you have can be used in Channel Ident. If you want you can also use their picture, crop the item out and animate them.
Moodboard
Before receiving feedback, I was pretty confused with the Channel Bumper concept and I complicated and confused myself. After receiving feedback, I quickly do my research again on how I could execute this project since what I have done is to be used in the next project. Then, I realised I had some artwork that I had done previously and i can actually reuse it again. Since The elements I have are pretty realistic, and similar to paintings as well, I decided to go with the watercolor theme which is not too harsh or too out of Lumi's style.
Colour Palette
These are the colours that i can find from their product, it's mostly pastel colours. Light and simple.
Storyboard
The latest storyboard that is more simpler and revolves around introducing the brand.
Animation
Fig 1.1 Placing the elements in the canvas
First I place all the elements to be used in the canvas for the introduction. Clouds floating animation is done here too.
Fig 1.2 Animating the sparkle
Adjusting the sparkle to jump off the cloud and rotate while dropping down.
Fig 1.3 Background Panning
Fig 1.4 Second part
Here, the background changes to a background filled with LUMI's elements, the diamond downscale and continues drop and bounce.
Fig 1.5 Fruits transition
As each fruit drop and bounces, it changes into another fruit, so is the background colour. The colour changes into the fruit's colour respectively.
Fig 1.6 Glow transition
Yellow glow starts glowing in the center, and expands.
Fig 1.7 Creating the logo and tagline
By using pen tool, I first create the curve that I want and mask the text over. Then, I animated the text into appearing letter by letter slowly.
Fig 1.8 First Outcome
Feedback: The 3D sparkle does look better than vector shape, maybe you can adjust the fruits animation to how Fruit Ninja looks like, just adjust the position popping up from the bottom. Try to use guide and adjust the logo to the middle and make the tagline surrounding the circle.
Fig 1.9 Easy ease key
Lastly, I have also easy eased the keyframes to make them smoother.
