Project 1: Instructable Infographic Poster
In this project, there are 2 different tasks to do, first where we are tasked to construct an infographic poster on food recipe based on the video we choose from the provided cooking Youtube channel. We were to study the steps and ingredients used in making the food and chunk all the information collected in a poster.
Second, we are to create a 60 seconds animated infographic video that can transmit a set of instructions and educate the audience at the same time.
Poster size : 1240 x 1750 pixels or 2048 x 2048 pixels
Video : 720p : 1280 x 720 pixels published on Youtube (set to unlisted)
Chosen Food recipe: Sthridhlja Pasta
Sthridhlja is tricky to pronounce but fun to make, no rolling pin involved, tagliatelle style pasta. It's been made in Italy since 1450 when Albanian refugees settled in southern Italy. These Arbëreshe communities still retain the language and culture, along with some delicious recipes like this one. Marietta's recipe is so simple it isn't really a recipe - it just needs good ingredients.

Visual inspiration
These are the posters that have given me inspiration for my poster layout. I really love the idea of how the pasta is flowing from the pot to the strainer and to the end. I planned to implement that in my poster. That part is what intrigued me the most. Secondly, the second poster from the left is simple but it is able to chunk quite amount of information in a poster which I think could be my alternative.
Sketch
Fig 1.1 1st Sketch, Week 5 (10.02.2023)
In my first sketch, I have listed out the ingredients used in making the dish and also jotted down the steps for the recipe in a Google Document. Then, I did a rough sketch of the graphics that will be used in the poster according to the steps.
Fig 1.2 1st Sketch, Week 5 (10.02.2023)
Then, I did a more thorough sketch to give myself an idea of how to place everything together to fit on a poster-size canvas.
Illustration assets
Fig 1.3 Vector art in Procreate, Week 5 (11.02.2023)
In Procreate, I have done some vector art that will be used in the poster. After drawing all of the graphics, I exported them as PNG and download them ready to be used in AI.
Fig 1.4 Arranging them accordingly, Week 5 (12.02.2023)
In AI, I have arranged the materials and steps respectively to ease the process of arranging the information in a poster.

Fig 1.6 First 2 Poster design, Week 5 (12.02.2023)
After countless of trials and errors, I came up with these 2 designs. The chosen font was 'Slimeha Regular'. #1: I tried to link 4 steps into one step which is by connecting the pasta into a slide shape, the steps are labelled at the curved area. The steps are arranged left and right alternately.
#2: The name of the pasta is placed in the middle, The steps are arranged in a clockwise manner from 9 o'clock. In step 9 which is different from the 1st poster, it is a more simplified way and also takes up lesser space, instead of using the noodles sliding downwards, it is replaced by arrows.

The order arrangement has been rearranged.
Fig 1.8 Changes after Feedback Session, Week 6 (13.02.2023)
After receiving Mr.Hafiz's comment on my poster, I have changed the font and sizes of the entire poster as in the graphics and wording to make it more visible. The previous posters were chaotic as the font used was unreadable. After considering Mr. Hafiz's comment, I have understood that a good infographic should have its wording and graphics equally displayed properly to catch the attention of the audience. Also, I have decided to work on the #1 poster as Mr.Hafiz also agreed that it is more interesting than #2.

Final Outcome
Part 2: Animated Infographic Video
Fig 2.1 Preparation of scenes in AI , Week 6 (16.02.2023)
In AI, I planned to design the scenes before importing them into After Effect for animation. I have arranged them properly and separated them into different layers to ease the animation process later on which means I prepare the graphics while thinking about the animation of the graphics. While preparing the scenes, I have considered the matching of both posters and videos together, hence, I have used the same background colour, texture, and colour wise as well.

Animation
After everything is done in AI, I then exported them into AE for animation.

Fig 2.5 Readjusting the timeframe, Week 7 (20.02.2023)
After editing the entire video, I went through it thoroughly and check on every detail to ensure perfection. So, I did some readjusting of the keyframes as some of them are arranged at a faster pace which doesn't make sense.
Fig 2.6 Easy ease, Week 7 (24.02.2023)
While readjusting the keyframes, I have also added the 'easy ease' feature to the keyframes to enhance the smoothness of the animation.
Fig 2.7 Puppet-pin tool, Week 7 (24.02.2023)
So, to make the dressing flow out of the pan and make the 'pouring' action, I needed to use the puppet pin tool to adjust the dressing.
Sound Effect
Fig 2.8 Adding Sound Effect, Week 8 (27.02.2023)
I have looked up some free sound effect to add more flavour to the video, this enhances the realisticity of the video.
Fig 2.9 Background music, Week 8 (27.02.2023)
For the background music, I have decided to use this cute, pink background music as it has a bubbly and upbeat ukelele sound that will lighten up the mood of the video, so it doesnt dull down the video.
Amendment
Fig 2.10 Mistakes, Week 8 (02.03.2023)
Thank you Mr.Martin for pointing out and listing out the mistakes for me for easy reference. So, after receiving feedback from Mr.Martin, I immediately amended it. The mistakes are mainly on the texts, where they overlapped with the graphics and their animation is incorrect with their position.
Fig 2.11 Drop down from top, Week 8 (02.03.2023)
The text animation was pretty disturbing as the text on top came in from the bottom instead of the top, which is quite unappealing. The overlapped texts and graphics were a problem too. So, I had made amendments on these mistakes.
Fig 2.12 Masking, Week 8 (02.03.2023)
I hated masking and I did not understand how to do masking, but since masking would help to perfect my animation, I had no choice but to learn, well, it's actually quite simple just like what Mr.Martin said, although the masking I did was not perfect but at least it did not look as awkward as before.
Final Outcome
Overall. in this animated video, I have used the puppet-pin tool, enlarged, bouncing effect, masking, and rotating animation for the graphics and texts.
Mr.Hafiz: The wordings are small and so are the graphics. Wisely use the negative space in a poster.
Reflection
I would say it was a great experience to learn to do an infographic poster and animated infographic video, now that I have the foundation to make videos, I feel it benefits me a lot especially in my major study later. It frusfrates me the fact that we had to use after effect because everyone knows After Effect is very laggy and it crashes and swwitches off sometimes on its own. So, it can give HEART ATTACK sometimes. Creating animation is not easy and it is time-consuming, Some animation took me more than an hour to successfully create the effect. However, when you see the outcome, it's satisfying.
I have also learnt to use the puppet pin tool and masking effectively, which I have always though that it was hard to learn because it sounds hard HAHAHA but oh well, it turns out to be quite easy and it definitely helps the visual. Making a video is really tough because it requires a lot of patience and effort, there's alot of amendments and fixing to do, even after you are done with the video.
