Exercise 1 Audio Fundamentals

Week 2: Exercise 1

In week 2, Mr Razif has given us a few sounds to play around with using the Parametric Equaliser. There are 7 sounds that we are supposed to make it sound like the original soundtrack.

Soundtrack  1
Fig. 1.1 PE for Soundtrack  1

The bass  of EQ 1 is increased, as the strength of the bass is not strong enough.

Soundtrack  2

Fig. 1.2 PE for Soundtrack

The sound of EQ 2 is pretty muffled hence, I increased 5 and H to make the crispy sound more hearable, at the same time the bass is slightly increased as well.

Soundtrack 3

Fig. 1.3 PE for Soundtrack 3

For soundtrack 3, I felt it is covered by something or it is placed in the closet as if there's a barrier preventing the sound from emitting. So, I increased everything slightly above 0.

Soundtrack  4

Fig. 1.4 PE for Soundtrack 4
For soundtrack 4, it is just the volume of the soundtrack that was being altered, I ihave increased it by 0.3.

Soundtrack  5

Fig. 1.5 PE for Soundtrack 5

The bass of soundtrack 5 is not strong and overwhelmed by the crispy sound, so I increased the bass and decreased the treble.

Soundtrack  6

Fig. 1.6 PE for Soundtrack 6

I had some trouble to adjust this soundtrack, because I was confused by the loudness of the soundtrack and the treble. So I lowered 4&5, and increased 2 to balance out.

Filter 1

Fig. 1.7 PE for Filter 1

For filter 1, the bass is not strong and I had slightly decreased the treble.

Filter 2

Fig. 1.8 PE for Filter 2

As for filter 2, the sound is more muffled than soundtrack 3. A larger barrier is preventing the sound from emitting.

Week 3: Exercise 2

This week, Mr Razif gave us a sample voice and taught us how to create sound in different environment and devices by using the sample voice. The 'Reverb' feature is used in airport, toilet, and stadium sound clip to create the echo effect.

On telephone

Voice announcement at an Airport

Fig. 2.4 PE & Reverb for voice announcement at an airport

Mr Razif told me that the more outdoor it is, the higher the Decay Time, So by comparing the airport to the stadium, it is smaller in size, therefore, it has smaller Decay Time.

Voice announcement at a Stadium

Fig. 2.5 PE & Reverb for voice announcement at a Stadium

Hence, the stadium has higher decay time than the airport. The echo is stronger too compared to the airport.

Voice in the toilet

Hence, the stadium has higher decay time than the airport. The echo is stronger too compared to the airport.

Week 4: Exercise 3

Explosion

Fig. 3.1 First explosion

For this first explosion, I have reversed it to make a pre-explode effect. I have also adjusted the EQ.

Fig. 3.2 Second and third explosion

I have adjusted the EQ for both but only made the third explosion a stretch one. I have layered them to create a denser explosion sound.

Aeroplane

Fig. 3.3 panning

A simple exercise to learn about panning from left to right.

Punch

Fig. 3.4 Punch eq and pitch adjusment

For punch, i have created a few different sound so it gives variation when it plays. Mr.Razif encouraged us to use try edit it into gaming type of punch, which i have tried and HAHA i suffered a lot.
