Exercise 1

Ping Pong ball

Fig 1.1 Ping pong ball

I have referred to the sample video that Mr Kamal had shared with us, as for the ping pong ball, it has a lighter weight, therefore it bounces higher and longer before it stops.

Fig 1.2 Problems encountered

There were some problems I have encountered while animating the ping pong ball, such as imbalanced

Feedback: not there yet, try to make more bounces with closer distance

Fig 1.3 After amendment

After the feedback session, I redid the animation into shorter distance with more bounces.

Bowling ball

Fig 1.4 Bowling ball animation

Feedback: the rotation is weird but overall is fine, the rotation can make it lesser, dont have to rotate a lot.

Fig 1.5 After amending

I reduced the bounced to just one bounce.

Beach ball

Fig 1.6 Beach ball

Next, I am working on the animation for a beach ball. Since a beach ball has a lighter weight than a football and a bowling ball, it bounces more and higher than the other balls.

Feedback: can be slower

Fig 1.7 After amending

After receiving feedback from Mr Kamal, I have added more bounces and lengthened the time to make it move slower.

Soccer ball
Fig 1.8 After amending

After feedback, I got the idea of how to do already, but when I started altering again, I got confused so I tried to figure out a way to understand the concept.

Fig 1.7 Setting lighting

Setting the lighting for rendering later.  After a few attempts, i adjusted the background lighting that dims everything.

Final Outcome

Exercise 2Pendulum

Fig 2.1 Pendulum
After a few attempts and redo-ing, I have made the timing into even numbers and the wiggle end to be more smoother instead of too fast.

Feedback: make sure the timing is in even number. Mark the breakdown and make that part a drag.
Timing and proper planning, the wiggle end should be extended, it needs more time to settle down.

Final Outcome

Exercise 3Emotion Poses

Happy pose

Fig 3.1 Happy pose

By using the picture on the right as reference, I have adjusted the facial expression as well. At first, the eyes looked like it was popping out, and after receiving feedback from Mr. Kamal, which he thinks the points should be sharp and pointy to imitate the cartoon character exaggeration.

Feedback: If you want to make it look like a cartoon character, then you have to make everything consistent.  The curves and archs are obvious but it will look unrealistic. So you have to pick whether you want a cartoon character or a realistic person. Make the front part of the eyebrows higher.

Fig 3.2 Setting up lighting

To give a happy vibe, I wanted to put a yellow lighting that shines at him, but after a few attempts and discussion with Mr.Kamal, I have decided to follow the the usual light setting which is a cold and warm light at a side to give contrast.

Sad pose

Fig 3.4 Progress

Feedback: Maybe you can make the bottom lip flatter and the upper lip like a hemisphere, you can also lower the corner of the mouth. The hands in relxed position should be lower and dont make the pinky curve so much inside.

Angry pose

Fig 3.5 Angry pose reference

Fig 3.6 Progress

For this pose i focus on the eye expression and fingers.

Feedback:  Angry pose should have all the joints pointing sharp.

Scared pose
Fig 3.7 Scared pose reference

Fig 3.8 Progress

Feedback: lower the right hand so it wont block the face, add some dim green light on the left.

Fig 3.9 Lighting reference

Fig 3.10 Lighting progress

I made the right side a lot redder to indicate somthing bad is coming towards the character. After receiving feedback, I changed the left side to a fade blue colour.

Final Outcome

Happy

Sad

Scared

Angry
