TASK 2: Exercise 1 - User Persona Research

In task 2, we are tasked to create a personal service app that features functions that are not seen in the market yet. We started generating ideas for the app and shortlist the ones we prefer most.

Fig 1.1 Ideation

After everyone has gathered their ideas, we have shortlisted the standout ones, and we saw a potential in the travelling app, so we opted for that app. We further discussed about the main and special features that are not in most of the travel app in the market. We tried to pur ourselves in user's shoes, and create a simple yet multifunctional app that targets solo travellers in the market.

About the app
The special features help users to customise and plan their trip according to their budget and itinerary neatly, and also send real time updates on personal location to their close contacts, ensuring their safety while travelling alone. Besides, not forgetting about the hiring services such as tour guide and professional outdoor activities instructor that users might want to hire while traveling. Our aim of this app intends to create a platform where users who loves travelling but always held back due to personal reasons, therefore, we incorporated these features to allow users to travel with joy and safe.

Fig. 1.2 Google Form Questionnaire

We created a Google Form questionnaire for our user persona research. I was in charged of the interest and goals throughout the questionnaire. The reason why we question them about their interests and goals while travelling is to understand more of what the audiences look for when they travel. Through these questions, we are able to proceed to the next step.

User Persona Analysis

After receiving the responses, we began our analysis of the section we were in charged of. After analysing them, I got to understand the needs and wants from the users who enjoy solo travelling.

Then each of us picked 2 respondents to analyse. This analysis further allow us to understand their pain points and frustration, motivations, challenges, needs and expectations. Then, we look for technical features that we can create in our app such as sharing live location, budget planner, itinerary planning. We also set up our Unique Selling Point and set up our business goals to keep us on a right track throughout the journey.

Then, we began to analyse our competitors for reference, and also to understand what features already exist in the market and what is not. This allows us to identify the gap in the market and create a special feature as our Unique Selling Point.

 TASK 2: Exercise 2 - UX Requirements

Everything is done in the slides below.

After this, we came up with a few main features for our app. There are Itinerary planner, budget planner, services, and community page. These are the main features that we have shortlisted and decided.

TASK 2: Exercise 3 - UX User Journey Diagram

Figma board for discussion and extensive work space

We did everything in Figma board for easy reference. I took up the services and profile page part. and began to research on some similar apps that have these features that i can take reference from. The research I have done has broaden my field of vision, I have gained so much sight and allows me to create this page flow seamlessly.

Reflection

Coming up with the personal services app idea was not an easy task, as we have to create something new that doesnt exist in the market yet. Then, we had to conduct a research on understanding the user's needs and expectations when they use the app. I have learnt that determining our Unique selling point and business goals are one of the most important steps so we wont lose focus or get distracted during this journey. I was quite frustrated with creating the app features, I thought making the services page was as medium tough level task, but it decided to fail me, I was struggling with the functions and features to put in this page. There is actually a lot to consider when creating the services page, such as some functions are necessary but some are not. So, it was quite a pain to me but I m sure everything pain will have a gain, so I m not quite in the disadvantage here.
